Disappointed with the police investigation into the suspicious death of a NEET student at a girls’ hostel in Patna, the aggrieved family approached Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday.

Placing their concerns before him, the family alleged that their daughter was murdered inside the hostel and that evidence is being destroyed. They appealed to Choudhary, who also holds the Home Department portfolio in the Bihar government, to intervene personally, alleging that “the intentions of the police now appear suspicious.”

After meeting the family, Samrat Choudhary summoned Bihar Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit and Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar to his residence. Patna Inspector General Jitendra Rana, Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police Abhinav, and other members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) were also present at the review meeting.

Earlier in the day, the victim’s family, struggling for justice, had approached DGP Vinay Kumar. The family told the media that they failed to get any assurance of immediate or major action in the case. Instead, they were directed to meet Home Minister Samrat Choudhary.

The deceased student’s mother alleged before the media that the police administration is trying to suppress the case. She claimed that the local police have accepted bribes from the accused, due to which no action is being taken against the main culprits.

She further alleged that the police are claiming that her daughter was not raped and that officers have stated the doctor lied regarding the sexual assault.

Following what the family described as a sluggish police investigation and revelations in the post-mortem report, the matter has now reached the Patna High Court.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Patna High Court by advocate Alka Verma on behalf of Sushma Kumari, seeking an investigation into the case under the court’s monitoring. The petition demands that the investigation be conducted with complete credibility and transparency.
